Here's the most interesting line from the article:

The aircraft [used in the final flight] will then remain grounded in standby mode while awaiting the arrival of its successor, a shiny new Boeing B777-300ER -- and eventual shipment to an undisclosed aviation museum in the United States.

As a retired DC-10 technical instructor and strong proponent of the Long Beach Cable Car, I am deeply saddened by the news. So many thoughts running through my mind right now about the airplane, it's design features, and it's innovative solutions to design issues. It's where I became a big supporter of the GE CF series engines. The fun I had turning a hanger full of 727/737 guys into Douglas folks here inside Boeing Central.

It's an honest airplane and I hope it does wind up in a stateside museum, any ideas on l/n, original operator? Being a -30 series makes it kinda special for those who are in the know-

From what I've found online, it's S2-ACR, c/n 48317/445 (which the airline bought brand new in 1988).

How many other variants are still in use , i.e. KC-10s cargo haulers et.? Three years ago, Ten Tanker was down this way firefighting.

Biman MD Steele said the DC-10 would not go to any museum as said before and it would be sold as scrap once it returns.

A triangle, B triangle, C triangle.... Blue Dot... Yeah, I remember working on that contraption that was designed by a relative of Rube Goldberg who was high on Acid!! LOL!!!
Engines were easy, gear change was a snap...Slat cables were a pain (#3 wrap around) and removing the Slat Cable drum out of the CAC was fun... If you were a bit on the heavy side, hanging the fish pole for an APU removal was challenging..
Yeah, worked them, made a bunch of money on overtime, but not sad to see them go!
