Military Air Crashes

Fri Apr 26, 2013 9:29 am

Hi there,

I'm doing a bit of research at the moment, and wondered if you might be able to help? I'm looking at American military air crashes since World War II that have gone on to improve aviation technology and safety. It's quite a specialist area and I'm not an expert, so I just wondered if any examples might spring to mind on these boards? The idea is that a plane crashes in action, and as a result of the subsequent investigations or research, modifications were made in the interests of better safety. I'm looking initially at World War II but any American military incidents since then are also good.

Alphonse Chapinis's work in World War II on cockpit displays, after a series of B-17 runway crashes, is one example of what I mean - although I have no idea what planes these were!

Any tips would be very gratefully received.

Thanks a lot

James
