Strange Aircraft from 1952!! WTF!!

In rummaging around the Google/Life Picture archives I came across this wingless aircraft. I have never ever seen a reference to it before and wonder if any knows whether it ever flew or it's ultimate fate.

Yes, it flew. Shown here along with other strange-winged devices. The Horton used Cessna T-50 parts.
