The lady turns in 40 years of service

Sat Jan 23, 2010 2:57 am

Today, 01/22/10 is the anniversary of the first commercial flight by the 747. A PAN AM 747 flew from New York to Paris on that flight. to date I believe the estimate is somewhere close to 3/4s of the worlds population has ridden on a 747 and it's still in production with the new, longer and improved -8 set to do it's first flight in the very near future. :D :D :drinkers:

There's nothing like the 747. Unarguably one of the great 'planes, a true world-changer.

Thanks for the reminder, Inspector!

A great milestone for a truly great and revolutionary airplane.

The aircraft is so great that it doesn't need to be puffed up with impossible claims. I doubt that even 1/4 of the world's population has ridden on any plane. I assume that the claim counts multiple trips by the few million people who have flown on 747s as if each trip was by a separate person.

We need you to be more careful as August and I use WIX as our primary source data.

No. But your accuracy (as above) and US citizenship should make it a shoo in. ;)

Haven't you heard? The U.S. Supreme Court just lifted all restrictions on corporations donating to candidates election campaigns. I'm so very happy that I will no longer have to deal with that pesky franchise called 'voting'. Now I can just wait and see which corporation buys the Presidency and the Senate-makes life so much easier. And up until now, the Republicans have been yelling about not becoming Socialized-that's beginning to look like a much happier option. Will my next President show up wearing sponsor patches on his $1200 suits like a race car driver?
Orwell may have been on to something :Hangman:  :butthead:

Golly, I like the 747 more and politics less every day!

Um, gee, I never said anything about politics. Inspector, neither JDK nor I are eligible to run for U.S. office, so you'll have to fill our seats for us. As you say, it appears that Boeing can buy you a seat now. All I said was that no rational person would "believe" the "estimate" that 3/4 of the world has flown on a 747; maybe you misunderstood the Boeing marketing dept., and they really meant that 3/4 of 1% of the world's population has flown on a 747? That would be more reasonable. Although I hope you didn't misplace the decimal by 2 digits in the calculations that produced the 787s I'll be flying! I'd like to think I can "believe" your "estimate" that the wings will stay on. :D

What they probably said is that the number of pax flew by the 747 is equivalent to almost 3/4 of the world population? That was what I understood by the claim...

I think that's probably right -- it's what I meant in post #3 -- but knowing nothing about where the estimate comes from, it's hard to be sure.

WOW! you guys are like vampires or leaches! This thread started off great with the first two posts! Then with the third post it went straight to the sewer. Thanks for that! Just curious if "k5083"/ August is over the age of twelve? JDK? Clearly in the Inspectors first post he said " I believe" and " estimate ".Never did he say "this is the 11th commandment" Go back and read it again! rreis nailed it. So why behead someone if their off the top memory is not 100%?
