A few weeks ago, I made it over to the Hagerstown Fly-In in Hagerstown, Ind. This is a Tuesday afternoon/evening fly-in typically held during the week leading up to Oshkosh. As such, it's hard to plan on getting time off work to make it. I was lucky enough that things worked out this year and I was able to make it back for the first time in a few years. As with my last visit, there was a great variety of rare vintage aircraft. This year's highlights included the 1936 Aeronca LB that would go on to win the Silver Lindy at Oshkosh the following week, a Davis D-1, multiple Wacos, a Fleet Finch and an assortment of vintage taildraggers. A pair of New Standard D-25s were kept busy most of the afternoon and evening giving rides. Homebuilts and some contemporary aircraft were also represented. When I left, more than 60 aircraft had registered. There is great community support for the event. Next year's event will be July 16, 2019. Excellent. I love seeing Pietenpols still flying with the Model A engine (NX899LW). August |
