I disagree 300% with you: I followed this search since a long time, and this team is very professinal, the french navy and some major companies support them for a few years.
And they never did "sensationnal" announcements in the media...

Really no comparaison at all with TIGHAR.

My brother was an early, if not charter member of TIGHAR when it started. Before they developed their unhealthy Amelia fixation, l'Oiseau Blanc was one of many bits of lost aviation they were seeking.
I think one of the reasons they draw so much (well deserved) bad feeling, is that, like a friend who gets embroiled in a destructive relationship, you're saddened by the squandering of potential.

On a different note, there was an ad in Barnstormers yesterday looking for a Lorraine-Detrich W-12 for a replica l'Oiseau Blanc project.

Clive Cussler's group has also looked for it. He details their search in one of his "Wreckfinders" books. If they made it North America, there probably isn't much left of it except the engine...so that's what they looked for. Still, it's a needle in a haystack when you're looking for something that small in the north woods.

Gee, I thought Dirk Pitt already found it. I never knew it had a radial engine and a three-bladed prop...
