Post subject: | Looking for a Jacobs L-3 engine (or parts!) |
Hello all, I am trying to find any parts of, pieces of, or intact Jacobs L-3 engines. These little 3 cylinder engines were built in the early 1930's, and from what I can find online only about 44 of them were ever built. They primarily were used in the Spartan C2-60. Frankly I'm not aware of their use in any other aircraft. I am only aware of a couple of these engines still around. Can anyone help? We have one of them attached to the C2-60 in our museum here in Tulsa. It was sourced in the 1960's from the Jacobs company itself. It was the last one that they had. If anyone knows of one or parts of one hanging around, please let me know. Thanks! kevin info below from : http://www.enginehistory.org/Piston/Jacobs/Jacobs.shtml The Jacobs Model L-3, which received Approved Type Certificate No. 75 on 12 Aug 1931, produced 51 hp at 2,125 rpm and weighed 189 lb. With a bore of 4.125" and a stroke of 4.750", the 3-cylinder L-3 displaced 190.4 in³. The Jacobs L-3, could be operated in either tractor or pusher configuration. Two flange-mounted Scintilla magnetos provided dual ignition, and a Stromberg NAS-3 carburetor furnished the mixture. Approximately 44 L-3s were built before the Type Certificate expired on 23 Jul 1941. |

I was visiting the Hood River airport in Oregon about 5-6 years ago and they had a Jacobs L-3 engine on one of their planes in the museum. Maybe they have parts or spares, hope this helps. http://www.waaamuseum.org/ |
