All
I am currently working on a paper that is focused on American commercial aviation returning to normalcy at the end of WWII. One of the things I talk extensively about is the ability to purchase transports from the military at cheap prices. I have found a number of images and newspaper reports; however I would really like to utilize an advertisement showing the aircraft for sale, and the prices etc.

If anybody knows of something that could help please let me know.

Chris
You might look at William T. Larkins book Surplus WWII U.S. Aircraft. It has some of the ads from Aviation News 1945-1946 in it.
Or trying to Google Aviation News to see if they are on line.

This book, http://www.donmcvicar.com/revmosqu.htm , details a WWII ferry pilot who set up his own airline using surplus equipment. Descriptions of going onto the properties and choosing which DC-3. No advertisement, though.

You might want to contact Bill Larkins. You should be able to reach him through his photo page on airport-data.com. I know he has many, many pictures of surplus aircraft taken just after the war. He might have ads also.

I purchased Larkins' book recently. It is indeed a treasure trove of post-WWII aircraft disposal. He was there at Kingman and elsewhere, took the photographs himself, and wrote the book.

I've been trying to come to speed on the topic myself, and am writing as I learn more, at ...

Chris - I have a few old Trade-A-Planes from 1970's-1980's which may have some ads/photos . Also, I may have a couple of DOD Surplus Sales Catalogs featuring the military aircraft for sale. I don't know if this sort of data is what you may be looking for?.. :|
