The firm that is famous for making modern versions (you can get a "glass cockpit" as an option!) of the classic WACO YMF biplane have announced they're going into production with the Great Lakes T2-1A sport/aerobatic aircraft.

And for those of you who may not be familiar with the WACOs, here's their general site.

Pricey!!! Can't see a lot of sales at that price. If they do, the economy is in better shape than I thought.

Sadly, it's not THAT expensive compared to new GA aircraft. What's a new cessna 172...$150,000 or more?
Even basic foreign made LSA are well over $100K.
A used one would be at least half that, and possibly more. So I can see some guys wanting the security/safety of a new plane.

And could they please put the tall gear back on it and a smaller tailwheel so it sits up proud like an airplane should...

A Pitts S2C is quite a bit more (~$315 to $330,000) with similar production numbers, probably due to the canopy, bigger engine, and fancy propeller so the price for the Great Lakes seems about right. Still a lot of money.

@John B: 160 Cessna 172s were $150,000 with no options 15 years ago and the production numbers are far higher than 12 or 15 a year.

Now if they would just rework the cockpits so tall people wearing parachutes like Baldeagle and I can fit without our heads above the windshield or our faces in the panel, I will start wishing I could have one..

@Baldeagle: Would be nice but I doubt it will happen unless.. Maybe it could be an option?
