Here is my buddy Jeff Skiles with his new Waco....a 1935 Waco YOC NC15244, the only YOC model flying. And yes, this is the same Jeff Skiles who was the co-pilot on USAIRWAYS flight 1549 that ditched in the Hudson River. He and Sully are now Co-Chairmen of the EAA Young Eagles Program. ![]() Visiting our hangar on his flight home with his new "baby" along with friends Larry & Ilse Harmacinski. Larry was checking Jeff out in the Waco. and they stayed 3 days. That's my 1935 Waco YKC-S (only one flying of that model as well). 1935 was the first year Waco produced what they called a "Standard" Cabin and a "Custom" Cabin. Notice the different landing gears, tails and wings? The "Custom" series had a longer fuselage with more room and were actually sesquiplanes, not biplanes, meaning the bottom wings were 1/2 the square area of the top wings. ![]() Jeff's YOC in flight enroute to my brother's strip at his farm taken from my Waco with Larry flying. ![]() |

i assume you were at the auction about 7 years ago near warren or youngstown where a cabin waco in crapped out condition was the prime item for auction. if i recall, it went for a song. is that babe flying yet?? my buddy now 64 re- doped the fabric on her as a kid!! i bought a few items myself, & about fainted at the selling price of the ww 2 link trainer set up. the navion was flown out with piss, vinegar, bailing wire, & sheer balls!! i remember seeing it at sandusky's griffing airport a couple of months later. |

Wait until you see the Waco YKC you are speaking of. I was not at the auction but a friend was and he bought it. Sold it to another friend who stored it for a year or so and then I went to look at it for another friend in Colorado who ended up buying it and starting the restoration. This was around 2005. The airplane has been totally restored with brand new wings, 100% correct interior, fuel-injected 300hp Jacobs engine, all new woodwork on the fuselage, 100% correct instrument panel, aluminum wheelpants with all the fancy wing and strut fairings, new aluminum bump cowl. This was the actual State of Ohio owned Waco and that is exactly how it has been restored, down to the same paint scheme with the State of Ohio seal on the side of the fuselage. This one will be an OSHKOSH Champion. Should be flying this summer. The color is an odd green, almost a torquois green as per original with cream trim. |
