My wife and I plus several other antique airplane friends went to see the new Amelia Earhart movie this evening. Although the movie has received less than stellar ratings from the critics, I personally enjoyed the movie. The story line basically stuck to the facts regarding her flying career and her marriage to George Putnam. There was not alot of the Hollywood mushy love story stuff like with the movie "Pearl Harbor". There was a good amount of flying and some great air to air sequences. Yes, there was some computer generated flying like with the Fokker Trimotor "FRIENDSHIP" and the Lockheed Vega, but for obvious reasons. They did build two full-size mock-ups for the movie of these two aircraft and both are now in museums. They were quite well done.

Now, for the other airplanes in the movie it was obvious that they did not have alot of period airplanes working in the movie. They did use a real Lockheed 12A and a real Ford Trimotor. The sequence about the Powder Puff Derby has a Waco ATO Taperwing which oddly enough is flown by Amelia. There are two Classic Waco YMF-5's, a Thruxton Jackaroo, Tiger Moth, Gypsy Moth, Staggerwing and maybe a few more. There is also a sequence with Amelia out flying around doing rolls and such using a Swiss-painted Bucker Jungman. If you take those things away that only an aviation purist would recognize, the movie was good. There was no speculation about what happen at the end and no Hollywood dramatics. I would reccomend that you go see it if you get a chance.
