Just wondering. Are there any DC-4/ 6/ 7s still flying comercially in the US? I remember that there used to be a plethora of these old propliners flying in Florida up until the 90s. I know that Carlos Gomez has a pair of 7s and a 6 in Opa Locka, but are there any other?

In Canada there are. Check out Buffalo Airways, out of Yellowknife.

And Comair, the water-bomber fleet.

Not sure about the lower 48, but there are some flying in Alaska. Good article by Ralph Pettersen in the latest issue of "Air Classics" magazine concerning this.

Not to mention Larry Kraus' outfit, Butler Aircraft, still working a DC-6 and some DC-7's as fire tankers?

I think Biegert Aviation in Az is still flying some C-54's as cargo haulers, and the Berlin Airlift Group has a C-54 flying.

Thanks for the info guys. I seem to remember that when T&G vacated Chandler they had one operational DC-7 left. This one wore old Delta colors. What happened to it?

it relocated to Coolidge along with the rest of the fleet (IAR)

N4887C is no longer used as a fire fighter but still very much airworthy

Sad to see that the last survivors seem to disappear at an alarming rate these days. I was in touch with a couple of DC-6/ 7 operators in Miami while still a teenager in the mid- late 80s, and got permission to ride in their a/c when in Florida. Unfortunately I always went to see warbird related stuff whenever in the US, and then of course the propliners were "run outta town" by the feds in the mid 90s. And thus I had lost my chance to go flying in them. I still think "lucky b@st@rd" whenever other people relate stories of flying in these piston engined airliners. But to me it was a case of "they'll fly on forever.." and I really expected to see them operate in the new millenium!
