I saw the preview in the theater last week. Looks like there will be some nice flying sequences.
I went to see Public Enemy and there were a few nice Ford Tri-Motor shots in it.

Although the airplane they use as Amelia's Lockheed is good lookin', and I certainly have no problem with it, it's still a shame they couldn't get the one the one that was used by "whats-her-name" to duplicate the Around the World Flight, back in '97 or '98 or so. As pictured here on WIX recently, that plane is just sitting there, doing nothing now.

Looks interesting.
I noticed immediately the digitally created aircraft in many of the shots in the trailer. Shouldn't detract from the story, it'll just bother people like me!

Gary, now that old whats' her name is out of the picture, what is the status of her old steed (I'm talking about the airplane)?

If I remember correctly, someone (maybe c170Dan or Steve Dickey) put a post up recently showing pictures of the airplane, just sitting stagnant in someone's hangar somewhere. Hasn't flown in years, if I recall.

Early on I made offers to help contact the owner of the Lockheed 10. Sounds like the production crew had already lined up the two model 12s to stand in. The 10 that flew around the world in 1996 is sitting in Santa Fe and is flyable. Would have been really cool to have that be in the movie. At least they got Lockheeds for the movie and not Beech 18s!!!

Good point, Dan. The Twin Beech is a cool old airplane, but it ain't no Lockheed. Especially when telling the story of Amelia.
I apologize for getting the info about the airworthiness of Finch's old 10E incorrect. I just had it stuck in my mind that it was still sitting derelict. My mistake.

A the time, when we were gathering a/c we tried to get Linda's Lockheed.
It WAS sitting derelict and there were some leagl issues with the a/c and ownership that mde it not very feesible for us to use it in the movie.
We also tried to get a Lockheed 10a from a well know airlne up in Canada however their fees and demands were out of this world.

We only used digital flying scenes for two a/c . The Fokker Tri-Motor and the Vega.
Why ? because there are none flying. We also made uo two fullsize mock ups of them for ground scenes. They were so accurate externally that both are now in World Class Museums.

Gary... no mistake on your part. That 10 sat for a long time... in Denton... then was bought... moved to Santa Fe... flew for a short time... and best I can tell the new owner passed on... so it sat for awhile again... appears to be flyable now... but doesnt. So... I may have only told part of the full story... even though I may not be fully up to speed.
