A few shots from this past weekend and filming for a new documentary about the 1929 Powder Puff Derby, taken by Joe Santana (owner/pilot of the green/cream Travel Air) at the Golden Age Air Museum at Grimes Airport, Pennsylvania-- Starting line, Monocoupe (Phoebe Omlie won the light plane class in the '29 derby), Fleet (Jessie Kieth-Miller in '29), Travel Air 4000 (flown by several pilots in '29), Speedwing Travel Air (Louise Thaden won overall PP Derby), and Waco (Gladys O'Donnell 2nd place in '29) ![]() The two Travel Airs ![]() Bird biplane in background, we used it for a camera ship, along with a Breezy and a Cub, and the Waco. Getting ready to go up in the Travel Air to buzz a Model A Ford, simulating Pancho Barnes' unfortunate close enounter with a car at one stop. ![]() See www.ragwingderby.com for more info on the film - |
