This one has been decaying at Chino for at least 25 years. The owner has been approached numerous times and refuses to sell at any price- you see, he has an overhauled engine sitting in his garage and will put her back together any day now... He's been paying tiedown fees all these years for it and it may not even be salvagable any longer. The Santa Ana winds have taken their toll. They come from the east and this plane is pointed west. First the rudder was ripped off, then the right door, and now the aileron is about to depart. I'm sure all the control stops are broken out from the frequent beatings. Anything worth stealing would have been removed long ago. ![]() ![]() |

Sad to see. Our little airport has rows of open t-hangars with poor, pitful airplanes in them. Would make a great series of forum posts to see what is laying around at airports around the country. |

Here are three that I've seen tied down for a number of years. I'm not entirely sure how long the Aercoupe has been grounded, but I'm thinking over fifteen years. ![]() The 152 has been moved around the airport a little, but it, too has been ground-bound for probably close to twenty years. Way back when I was wrenching at a little flight school across town we really needed another 152, but this one couldn't be bought, and it was starting to decline from lack of use even then. ![]() The only thing I know about this one is that it's been sitting a long time--that isn't a cover on the windshield, it is really crazed that badly. ![]() We don't really have any "neat" stuff sitting around, which I suppose is a good thing, but it is sad to see most any airplane slowly returning to nature. At least it appears to be for sale! It seems that the owners of some of these derelicts will not sell at any price. |

A few from the travels collection: ![]() ![]() Together with other two C-45s, reportedly available for sale (2007) ![]() The Beech Bonanza at Weiser Airpark, near Houston, was moved to the Brookshire International Air and Spaceport, where now it is a playground airplane. ![]() ![]() ![]() The cabin had moss growing on the seats! And, it was not for sale.... September 2001 ![]() A long time resident of the Laredo airport; I don't know what happened with this DC-6. ![]() ![]() The V-77 at Fleming Field, South St. Paul, MN was pushed to the weeds the last time I saw it. The usual story: The owner wanted to restore it, but he was busy working; then he lost his medical, and there were issues related to repairs and storage of the airplane, and the mechanic kept the log books, and the airplane sat at the ramp for many years. I don't know what ever happened, but when we attempted to buy it in 2000, it was not for sale... ![]() Offered for sale, back in 2003. ![]() Offered for sale, but according to locals, the asking prices were way too high, and there were no takers. ![]() Just South from the Nampa Warbird Museum. ![]() There are also a couple of DH Beavers nearby, as well as remains of T-6s. ![]() The UC-78 near Simplot, ID was being readied for shipment to Canada, for eventual restoration. ![]() Accompanied by several DC-6 fire bombers and a DC-3 (2004) ![]() Seen in 2001, although on the flight line, looked like it was a derelict. ![]() Salina, KS - probably never to fly again. ![]() ![]() There is also a T-39 nearby. ![]() Yuma, AZ 2005 Saludos! There oughta be a law against torturing aircraft like that! Perhaps some sort of inductive reasoning- if the aircraft sits, unrestored, unattended, abandoned except for fees paid, and apparently not for sale, the owner should be contacted and informed of the anti aero torture law, and the aircraft confiscated and given to a deserving new pilot if nothing is done to remedy the situation(such as a move to restoration facilities, some sign of attention given it, etc.) in a reasonable amount of time. This way us guys with no money to buy a plane can start to fix one up, and keep'em flying! Robbie |
