I don't have it on cd to check. What was the biplane on floats at the begining of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark?'

Just a guess, I seem to remember mention of this Waco UBF-2 NC13075, s/n 3692 on edo floats being used for this flick. Presently, registered thus:http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNumSQL.asp?NNumbertxt=13075&cmndfind.x=18&cmndfind.y=10
A complete article on this aircraft is in the EAA "The Vintage Airplane" January 1979 issue.

Hey Roger,

When and where is the Western Waco Gathering?

My museum has two Wacos (INF, AQC-6) and I might try and convince them to come down to the gather in the future.

Is it a good place to trade information, parts, etc? What would one expect at the Western Waco Gathering? In other words, would it be worth the money spent to get down there and back?

I don't mean to knock it, it's just that my museum is very money consious.

Cheers,

David

Hi David, it relocates to a new site each year, sometimes southern Ca, sometimes Northern CA. Through the years that I have gone to it, the southern Ca only seems to pick up around half a dozen Wacos, Northern CA usually has a dozen or more.
I stopped in on this one on the Sunday departure, as I was coming home from the Seaplane Splash-In at Clear Lake and we we had set-up an air to air shoot with one of the newest Wacos that had been restored, but that fell apart.
I don't believe they bring any parts for sale, but the folks there can direct you to parts sources and technical info. I think it's more of a get together, and some fun flying...........

Nice, that sounds like a great little event.

I want to start organizing things like that around the Vancouver/Seattle area.... cuz that's what flying's all about... Flying, hanging out, meeting people, and having a good time. Besides that it's just a bunch of sitting.. .haha

Last summer my air museum organized a "Round Engine Round-up" which I wasn't able to attend, but I hear it was a fun event.

Cheers,

David

Scott Woods is now the President of the Western Waco Association. They are planning their gathering around the first weekend in October at Petaluma, CA. Never sure why they never get a better turn-out with all the Wacos on the west coast. If you want to see 50-70 Wacos together come to Mt. Vernon this year in June!
