I found this picture on my dad's photographs.

It is in with a group of photos from around Lubbock, Teaxs in the late 20's early 30's.

Any clue to the ID of any of these airplanes?

Ztex: 1933 or 34 Powder Puff Derby I believe. I've got a bunch of pics from that time period, including several of Steve Pitcairn and his autogyro. I think mom has scanned them in to her computer. I'll ask when I see her Thursday.

1st one is a Waco Taperwing, next two look like Pitcairn Mailwings, but not sure, next maybe a Buhl Airsedan (?), then a Travel Air.

After some research...

The first airplane looks like a Waco CTO. I scanned the photo at a higher resolution and found the registration number of NC21M!

And thus a door opened up... a red and yellow CTO flown by Gladys O'Donnell it still exists stored for restoration as N21R
http://dmairfield.com/airplanes/NC21M/index.html

The third airplane says Miss Chicago on the side and NC5 _ _ _ on the tail and the fourth says Buhl on the side...

1930 Powder puff it is!

From the same web site, "Miss Chicago" is an American Eagle flown by Jean LaRene:

Any markings visible on the second plane?

Light colored one near the far end may be a Ryan Brougham

Ztex: Talked to Mom yesterday. Prints are not scanned, but she will see about doing them in the next couple of weeks, as time permits. She thinks they are from the October of '34 stop of the Derby there in Lubbock.

Ztex, What kind of scanner are you using? You've gotten my interest with your high res looks here, as much as I despise having to learn about electronic stuff.

Bald Eagle...Thanks for that link to the Miss Chicago pic. I have contacted the site owner and e-mailed him the photo...we'll see what he comes up with

Cvair...I would love to see those photos.

Canso...I am using an HP G4050 scanner. It's great.
I can scan negatives of all sizes, 4 x 35mm strips at a time...
I can scan 35mm slides, 16 at a time.

This photo is a 3-1/2" x 4" print...and this is a 2800dpi scan and crop of the first airplane...It works wonders...
