After a long Saturday at the Hamburg Airport Days show, it was nice to get some needed rest. This morning I've uploaded a set from the show on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/65309169@N00/sets/72157602040424751/ It was nice to see that so many props had made it to Hamburg, Especially as the weather conditions hadn't been the best. Unfortunately DC-3 N1944A was missing, not sure what had happened to it? The listed Beech 18 wasn't there either. The line up of mainly Douglas propliners was impressive. A shame really that the announced formation flight didn't go as planned due to the strong winds. I sincerely hope the show organisers will be able to proceed with that plan today Sunday. Thumbs up to the Air Atlantique crew and their *EXCELLENT* DC-6 performance!! Due to the lack of flying activity, the event in itself was a bit tame. Fortunately there were quite a few Bratwurst and Beer stands around the exhibition... As a photographer, I must say it was extremely annoying to see all the various people walking around the aircraft beyond the fence. It really made decent photography a difficult task for those of us who were located behind the fence. Now, I do understand that pro-photographers and crew should be allowed to get close to the aircraft, but seeing people wandering around taking photos with their 1.2mp cell-phone cameras and at the same time destroying excellent photo-opportunities for the rest of us... now, what did the show-organisers have in mind????? Those with press cards didn't even have access to the ramp beyond the fence, so I'm clueless as to who those people were (as you probably can read, I'm pretty pis**** off about this!). All in all a great day, even though there wasn't much flying... but German beer is good! |

Hi I have just come across this post so apologies for the really late reply! N1944A suffered a blown engine while en-route to Hamburg and but she made it into Coventry where she was going to meet up with G-AMPY and fly on together. She stayed for a few weeks while the engine was changed and then returned to Oxford. The DC 6 now has it's own website where you can view this years schedule and some videos.http://www.thedc6.com/ I was making some new drip trays for her last week and she should get a run up at this weekends open day. Regards,Alan |
