A few weeks ago, I was at my friends shop at Camarillo airport. I cruised my electric scooter over to the end of the runway to check out the EC-121`
that is owned by the Yanks museum and sitting there. a little further down, I noticed a rather ratty Convair.I cruised over to check it out. It is slowly rotting away. The cowlings are off.the engines are getting weathered, the tires are only a memory, etc, etc.I ask my friend about it and he told me that it once belonged to Cary Grant. He said that the registration includes the letters CG.He said that one ofCary's women friends(wife/squeeze?) gave him it as a gift.He also said that he has seen the interior and that it is very plush inside.Does anybody know the history of this plane? is the story true?and why is is turning to scrap in Camarillo ?Jest Wunderin. Thanks, Tim

It is probably the same Convair that I photgraphed at Pontiac (Michigan) Airport stored in the early eighties. It ended in CG on registration was said to have been Grants aircraft. If I find it I will post the photo.

That aircraft is a CV-240-5 and is cn 93. It was delivered to Trans-Austraila Airlines as VH-TAS on 10/8/48. It has had about 20 owners. It was registered N396CG to Faberge Inc.(Cary Grant) on 9/21/70. The current owner is shown to be Ed Schnepf. That is indeed the aircraft that sat at PTK for many years. I shot it there back in the 80s. Howard Hughes owned it at one time.
