A row of t-hangars were put up at Fleming Field where the V-77 was sitting and last I heard it was finally inside getting some attention.

Thank you!
I am glad to hear that -at last- something is being done to rescue that airplane.

Zane: That Super 3 has been sitting there way longer than you think. I tried to talk to Charlie, the guy that owns it, way back in 1988 about doing something with it, and it hadn't been flown in a lot of years then. I've got a friend at work that used to fly out of there and Luck Field, and if I can find him Monday, I'll ask what he remembers.

According to FAA database its owned by a James Thompson Longwood Fl.
I have an Aunt & uncle that live nearby and even though its been a couple years ago that I talked to someone at the airport about it(I still see it when I visit) they said it was planned to fly it out to nearby Spinks airport for furthur work. But this was all before the housing encroachment that has taken place lately. So it may end up going out in pieces
I guess the next time I head over I'll stop by and find out the latest.

This Huey is on the north edge of Fort Sill. Would have missed it if the tress had been green.

Wow, so many treasures. Imagine the history that each one of those DC-3's has? There's probably a pretty good chance each has WWII history, or at least some very interesting civil history. Regardless, they should be saved.
Someone mentioned some De Havilland Beavers..... wow.... they're always looking for Beavers to restore up here in Canada. They are still in very high demand.
Man, if only I had a lot of money.
Cheers,
David

i'm amazed that some dehavilland beavers on pontoons go for more $$$ than some jet warbirds!!! why?? i have flown on a few canadian fishing trips. on 1 i was in the co-pilot seat & looked at the door & saw it was wired shut with a coat hanger.

Good question Tom,
They are just "The" bushplane here in Canada, and I'm sure in Alaska too. Sure, there are technically better airplanes, with higher capacity, faster cruise speeds like the Caravan, but the Beaver is just the bench-mark or staple for bush flying.
A few years back I saw a couple for over $500K. They must have been really nice.
I suppose the other reason Beavers are so highly priced is because there weren't many built. Wikipedia says 1,657 were built. I don't know how many are left though.
Cheers,
David

My favorite DeHavilland Beaver was destroyed by a "restorer"... It was fully UN-restored military U-6, complete down to the exploding door bolts, litter racks & military radios! Steve Roberts in Delaware sold it about 10 years ago, and the buyer tore it apart, and rebuilt it as a civilian one.. Horrible, awful things were done to it, and I told the guy who restored it what I thought about that...

I used to love to get a ride in her- I remember run up & takeoff everything would shake, and dust would come off the overhead... That big old radial would sing, and we'd be up in the air.
I miss that plane!

When I took those Sycamore photos last year I talked to the aiport owner about the DC-3. He told me someone in Florida bought it and had plans to fly it out. Nothing had been done to start that process.
I know it has been there since @ 1984, that was the first time I saw it....
