Grumman Seaplanes

Hi Folks,
I'm doing some research into Grumman's finest (no, not the canoes, nor the fighters, not the spacecraft...) - their waterbirds; namely Grumman Duck, Widgeon, Goose, Mallard and Albatross.

I've found some good websites out there, but I wondered if anyone had any info, good sites, pics etc they'd like to share. The Grumman seaplanes seem neglected to me...

Hi James,

I have ALOT of Grumman Seaplane pictures. I am a big fan of them too. Have flown in a friends Widgeon and have dreams of spending winters in the Bahamas in "my" Goose! Just a dream but... flying around all those amazing beaches... just wearing swim trunks and Hawaiian shirts. Of course summertime would be spent up in Alaska flying around in the Goose!

Funny thing in common here, as a few years ago, I went up for an air to air shoot at the Seaplane Splash-In at Clear Lake a few years ago. I too went up in my friends 170, but our target plane couldn't get started, and then I found out I missed a ride in a McKinnon turbine Goose, to boot. Their crew looked for me but I was nowhere to be found

No, the 170 wasn't on floats, we took off from nearby Lampson Airport............Roger

If anybody is interested, I took some photos of the turbine Mallard used by Chalks Airlines landing in Bimini, Bahamas. I'd be happy to email them or post them if anybody needs it.

There are lots of references to Jimmy Buffett's Albatross, Hemisphere Dancer. She is now "preserved in Margaritaville Orlando (outdoors )
He flew her for many yrs. Prior to that he had a Grumman Widgeon that he crashed on takeoff out of Buzzards Bay, MA in early 90s.

These folks below at Mirabella help Buffett with maint and flight crew, but suffered damage in the recent FL hurricanes. They have their own Albatross and work on restoring other Grumman seaplanes.

Chalks Ocean Airways out of Miami/Ft Lauderdale still flys Mallards.
Flew them several yrs ago. It was a total hoot! A dream come true.

try squadron signal publishing out of carrollton texas i believe??? their web address is probably squadronsignal.com or squadronsignalpublishing.com. they do walk around layouts of 100's of warbirds from ww1 to current. prices usually are around 8 to 10 bucks. lots of period detailed pics, diagrams history etc. these books are as comprehensive as they get, no detail is spared. i have the duck book, yours for 10.00 bucks + shipping, let me know regards, tom
