HU-16 Albatross Embroidered item

Sun Dec 02, 2012 8:37 am

About 16 years ago I was doing research on Grumman HU-16's at the Grumman archives. One item they were discarding was this very high quality embroidered piece featuring an Albatross picking a fish out of the ocean with the initials HMAC. The embroidery is silver and gold thread upon a piece of 5 1/2" x 7" gray felt. The embroidery is 3 5/8" high and 3 " wide. I assume it represents an HU-16 rescuing a person from the ocean. Would anyone have an idea what this represents or the military service it was attached?

Looks to be on a swatch of an old military (Army...did the USN use them too or were they gray?) blannket. "Trench" art?

I don't think it's from USAF involvement with the Albatross.
