Who's going to Bartlesville?

Fri Apr 10, 2009 7:21 am

All right you Vintage Aircraft fans, how many of you are planning on making the trek to the final Bipane Bash in Bartlesville?

From Creve Couer we have Rolla in his Cessna 170, Les in his Grand Champion Travel Air 4000, me in my Fairchild 24 (depending upon whether I get a job or not!) and Glenn is hoping to take the Zenith Z6a.

Weather permitting, I'll be there in the RV-6.

I just snapped that B'ville is only a few hours over the border. Got a link to it or more info? When is it? If there's chance the big Z will be there, I may need to head up the road.

Don, I was referring to the Zenith Z6a. It is rawther large for a single engine biplane isn't it. lol

Made a quick run up to Bartlesville this afternoon... sure looks like a great turnout! Lots of WACOs, Stearmans, a few Great Lakes, Pitts, etc. An N3N or two thrown in for color, a New Standard... that's just off the top of my head. I'll leave it to the pros and to the photogs for better reporting. If you're in the vicinity, go! It's only $3, you park about 300 yards from the flight line, and the weather right now is GREAT!!!

I'm glad to hear the weather is cooperating for the finale. I wish we could get up there, but we've got a stop to make in Fort Worth. Get pictures, someone!

The Biplane Expo was excellent. Around noon on Friday, I left Atlanta in marginal VFR and headed west with Kelly (my wife) in the right seat of the RV-6. An hour later, the scud was behind us and three hours after that, I dropped Kelly in Dallas to visit friends. I carried on to Bartlesville, caught the courtesy van to dinner, and camped overnight. Attended a couple of forums on Saturday, then back to Dallas on Saturday evening, and back to Atlanta this afternoon.

I made a bunch of pic's, but here are a few that might be interesting...

A couple of Waco's at dusk:

It is late in the day for these birds:

What's that, a B-25 in the background?:

Same Stearman, no B-25:

A Fleet little biplane:

An honest to gosh workin' biplane. The pilot had a big 'ol Cowboy hat and the most uncomfortable lookin' boots I've ever seen...
