There were two of the at the 195 gathering last month in Fredericksburg. Refered to as 196s'.

Steve I don't have any pictures and didn't really get into the goings on, but was wondering myself if the 985 powered craft were STC'd or did the factory build a few. I know that the mapping company here in SA had one years ago, supposedly climbed much better. Always wondered why Cessna didn't put the 985 on, if ever an airplane cried for a particular engine that is the set up.

I do not believe Cessna ever built a 195 with an R985. The 190 used a 240 Continental and a 195 a 245 Jacobs. Now people put 275, 300 or 330 Jacobs on them. I have photos of at least 3 C195's with 450 Pratts. The one we owned for a few years had the 245 Jacobs

A skydive company in Fla had 2. Talked to the pilot, climbed like hell he said. Eventually I know one got wrecked. I dont have pics of any of those but just 4 days ago I got a e mail with a pic of one, I would post it but due to the nature of the woman being posed with it and I have not worked with photoshop yet, I will refrain from posting.

195s came from the factory with 245, 275 or 300 Jacobs. The 350 on the 195 was an aftermarket turbocharged conversion as far as I know and was not offered from the factory.

Is the picture with the young lady "propping" the 195? Seen it many times, just wondered if there was an airplane in the picture. By coincidence there was a turbo 195 in our airport just two days ago. Based in West Texas, looked like a hard working plane with tundra tires and tired paint.

I have a couple 985 powered 195 pics at home. In Portland area for the week. One is interesting.... even has tip tanks! Will post them when I get home.

I took a few snapshots of one of the former FL Skydive 196's at Sentimental Journey this year and will be happy to forward them to someone for posting. It is still based in FL, possibly Lakeland, and has been completely rebuilt, now owned by Cal Arter jr.

As previously stated there were no factory 985 powered 190/195 series aircraft, if I recall correctly the total number converted was 4-6 and I believe they were all converted at the same shop, possibly in MO. The conversion was made for high altitude photogrammetry. They were regularly operated at FL 250, due to the rounded cowl and the need for precision the photo 190/195 aircraft had a steel rod mounted in front of the windshield for horizontal reference.

Yep, thats the pic and yep there is a 450 Cessna 195 in the pic.
