I believe that PLANET plan on releasing a 1/48 resin kit and SANGER produced a vacform kit, also in 1/48 (see SAN4861 on the Hannants website)

That is weird dors...get outta my head Seems like with all of the U.S. made T-6 models that someone would have done the BT-13. There are several PT models, too.

Far as Valiant kits go, I know of two in 1:72, both now out of production and rather rare. One by Pavla was reportedly not bad; another by Beechnut (iirc) was pretty wretched, or so I'm told. I too had been hunting for a Valiant kit, needed for my "Project Walt" 1:72 diorama of a piece of the Soplata collection as it looked in the early 80s. Ultimately I kitbashed a BT-15 out of bits from a Testors Texan, an Academy P-40B, and a funny little Soviet-made kit of a Yak-40 airliner! Which works okay in the context of my diorama: but if you're looking to model an operational BT, you'll still need a real kit...

PJ, I have not been able to track down any drawings of the BT but Brian Taylor does a nice plan for a 73" R/C version that is available through Bob Holman in Ca. Brian Taylor is well known in R/C circles for the accuracy of his plans and the BT looks spot on to me. Brian usually will not design a model unless he has a full size that he can personally measure to make certain of scale fidelity. I don't know what your intentions are for the drawings but I'm sure you could scale the Taylor drawing to whatever size you like if you are looking at building a flying or static model. Here is a less than stellar pic of Brian's prototype.

A kit was available by Classic Castings Limited 1989 (I have it), it is a 1/48th Resin kit. It included vacuformed canopy and gear fairings, with white metal landing gear and tires and resin engine.

Mike West of Lone Star Models released a 1/48 resin BT-13 a few months ago. I saw it at the IPMS nationals...sweet looking and finely detailed. The BT is an often overlooked topic. I have one ordered, but they are in short supply...order soon!

I am currently working on a Vultee. The kit was released by Nor-Cal Aero. This will be a flyable R/C model. The scale is 1.75 in / Foot. I think the kit is no longer available, but I have seen it turn up at swap meets. It is pretty accurate on its scale outline, but not perfect. I'm going a little crazy with it by trying to duplicate functional scale external hinging for both flaps and ailerons. Since the wingspan is 73.5 inches, the hinging is a little small to work with. I will be shooting for completion before the end of the '07 flying season. This plane has some good things going for it, as far as its R/C flyability. It has a tall rudder, a fair amount of dihedral, and fixed landing gear. I hope it works well. If anyone knows the location of some good detailed photos for the yellow/blue paint scheme, please let me know. After I got this kit, I found out that Bob Holman Plans has a good set of plans available for the Vultee. They were done by Brian Taylor, the former British scalemasters champ. I have some other Taylor plans, so I can guess that they are probably very detailed.

Any news on 1/48 scale BT-13 models available??
