So far I've built an even dozen 1/48 scale F4U Corsairs. A while back I got them all together and took a few "group photos."

The kits here are Otaki, Hasegawa -4, Academy, Heller, Monogram, and Lindberg. I still have the AMT, Tamiya, Hobbycraft, Minicraft, Hasegawa -5, and AM kits yet to build....so much styrene, so little time.... :(

Which kit did you like the best?

Kinda depends on what variant I'm building. For a -1, the Tamiya is "the last word" (I haven't built one yet) but it's expensive and a bit complicated. So for -1, I like the old Otaki (also sold as ARII, AMT, and Airfix), except for its horrible engine.

For a -4, I like the Hasegawa. Haven't built the new Hobby Boss -4 and prolly never will, as it's also expensive and complicated. For a -5, the Hasegawa (also sold as Revell) seems good (haven't built that one yet, either), and isn't too expensive. Hasegawa also kitted AU-1 and -7 variants of that kit which are supposed to be nice, but now discontinued and I think they bring higher prices than the common -5. The AU-1 and -7 kits in the above photos (the ones with French markings) are Hellers. They were acceptable (to me) but I wouldn't call them "great" kits.

The old Monogram -4 is a special case. It's very inaccurate, but I always find it to be a fun and nostalgic build, once you fix a couple of its bigger problems. Have built two of them, have a third under rebuild at the moment (one I built as a kid), and have several more copies in the Snakepile to do.

The kits I would NOT recommend are:

AMT -1 Birdcage

Hobbycraft -1, any variant (unless you just need the cool decals in a couple of boxings, such as the FAS one)

Lindberg -5 (also sold by Testor)

Academy -4

Hobbycraft -4 (a wretched copy of the Monogram)

Minicraft -5

Nice! I've built a few. Tamiya, Heller, and Accurate Miniatures. I've got the Hasegawa on the long term workbench, gotta engrave those pane lines.

Yah! I guess you could say they're cool and all, ..... But! I have a couple issues that need addressing.

1. NO NAS Grosse Ile Corsair? ... Blasphemy!!!
2. That table clothe? Lol

Seriously! You got some monster model building talent there.
So if you have that many examples of Corsairs, what, and how many examples, of other aircraft have you built? Hellcats? Love to see some of those as well.

Great job!

I think I have two built Hellcats, with two more on the bench; seven Bearcats with two more on the bench, three Skyraiders, one on the bench; five P-47s, one on the bench; and Mustangs, lemme see, two Mono Bs, three Mono Ds, one Otaki, one Hawk, one Bandai, one Revell, so that's nine I can think of offhand.

That's just in 1/48. I also do 1/72 when the mood moves me.
