Back in the 60's and early 70's it wasn't uncommon to drive through rural airports and come across an ex-Military aircraft on the tarmac or next to a hanger. After WWII you could buy one at a reasonable price. And many were bought and flown to airports all over the country.
Some had long civilian careers and some never left the airport and were put aside and scrapped after years of just sitting and rotting away and being picked apart by vandals. Some were spared the cutting torch to someday fly again!
This SNJ-5 Texan is one of the few that would survive to fly another day and become a Warbird.

Starting with a Revellogram 1/48th scale T-6/SNJ Texan S.O.B. ( Straight Of the Box )
This one would not be what I added to it, but what I didn't add to it. I gutted the cockpit, drilled out the instrument panel, and fuel cap, added some wires to the panel and engine, cut open the storage compartment door, added a door cut from a soda can and left the rear seat and cut off the outer wings, rudder and elevators.

This one was fun to build.

That's one sad lookin' old girl, it's tougher to beat one up than it is to make a center piece. And that's nice work!!

This is a fantastic model and a fantastic idea!

If you would accept one minor critique...

There is a disc on your model between the exhaust and the engine cylinders. I think that is meant on the model to represent the engine baffles. That should actually be located at about the center of the cylinders. To a T-6 owner it stands out a little, but probably not noticeable to anyone else. I wouldn't change it though and mess up what you have already accomplished.

Great effort, it really looks real! Thankfully we don't see many derelict like this any longer... :D

If you are in the mood, you might consider doing more in this same theme. I really like it, and there are probably enough pictures around of authentic subjects to keep you busy for a while.
