Warbird Information Exchange

I recently won a Revell Spitfire MK II kit at the meeting of the local IPMS Chapter and came across a type of photo-etch I haven't seen before. Instead of the typical fret, the brass parts are stuck to a sticky, dark backing. The parts are individual and not connected by a fret or sprue-like substance in any way. Furthering the mystery, there are no instructions or brand-name associated with them anywhere. Anybody ever seen anything like this?

It's an old kit, so I'm wondering if it's an early attempt at photo-etch, or whether it might be something different. Maybe the parts were removed from the fret and stuck to a different backing? Are they OK to use?

Some of the early PE parts were done that way. I remember particularly seeing some WWI brass bits on sticky backing. I think I may have some A-36 dive brakes put out by IPMS USA "back in the day" that are done the same way.

I'm not familiar with the set you're describing, but I don't build 1/48 They should be fine to use, just be careful not to bend them too badly getting them off the backing, and be sure to clean off any adhesive residue before painting them.

Naptha, RONSON lighter Fluid, Acetone, Laquer Thinner, GOO GONE, will get rid of the sticky stuff, may take more than one application to get really old adhesive residue off
