Here are some photos of my completed Emhar 1/72 F-94C Starfire. This kit isn’t bad, and it’s the only game in town if you want a "C" model Starfire in 1/72 scale.

I replaced the kit cockpit the True Details set. Other improvements I added myself as follows:

- a tail pipe made from a pen cap was added to replace the blanked off kit exhaust
- scrap plastic and stryene strip was used to detail the wheel wells- retraction struts for the gear doors made from stretched sprue
- the windscreen between the front & rear cockpit was made from a small piece of clear plastic
- the various formation lights were made from scrap plastic
- the canopy retraction strut was made from a straight pin
- the small cooling intake on the top of the nose was missing from the kit so I made one from small pieces of styrene, covered in super glue and then sanded to shape
- underwing pylons were cut down and added from the spares box as this bird was modified to carry underwing tanks

Construction was fairly uneventful, with some filler being used along the intakes and nose mostly. My Starfire was painted with Krylon Brilliant Chrome Silver and Model Master Enamels.

There are no after-market decal sheets currently in production that I’m aware of for the F-94C. After studying the photos in the great Schiffer book "Lockeed F-94 Starfire: A Photo Chronicle", I was intrigued by the gray nosed ANG birds. I thought a ship from the PA ANG circa 1959 would be a good subject. I’ve also been on an ANG kick lately anyway for some reason so my choice was made. I had Caracal Models print out the PA. ANG markings for the nose and for the serial number on the tail and I was very pleased with the results. The rest of the decals came from the spares box – mostly from the Special Hobby F-86H ANG sheet, Mark I T-33 sheet/book, and an OOP Microscale F-94B sheet.

Happy Modeling.

-Derek

Nice job! How is the EMHAR kit to build?

That's a WOW build there. The ANG decals are great, wish more were floating around.

Thanks guys. The Emhar kit isn't bad, it's just not very well detailed. It reminds one of a Matchbox kit. It goes together okay - the shapes and fit are good, but there's just no detail to the cockpit, speed brake wells, or wheels wells (the wheel wells are also too shallow). The gear doors and speed brakes are very thick.

I too wish there were more ANG decals out there mazdaP5. I really like doing ANG birds for some reason. I think they are very interesting subjects that are mostly ignored/forgotten. Since there aren't any F-94C sheets out there, I had to have some made for this build and I just had to do an ANG bird. Luckily, this scheme is pretty straight forward with no tough markings to reproduce. I almost did a Minnesota ANG bird in the same scheme but since I was able to make the wing "ANG-555" from the old F-94B sheet, I did the PA ANG bird. I could have had this custom made too I suppose but that's just the way it worked out :)

I always associate those Korean war birds with straight wings (Stars, Scorpions, Thunderjets) with Wisconsin ANG because of the static ones parked outside of Oshkosh when I was a kid. It's something you don't see much on scale models, and rare or uncommon is just more interesting. 8)

And what about decals for the really forgotten part of the 50's/60's, USAF Air Defence Command?
