Want to build a Russian Catalina. Has anyone built the Nomad using the HVRP conversion kit from Hannants for the Minicraft PBY-5? Would it be better to add parts from the old Revell -5 and Academy -5? The Revell kit is a little old, but it has raised panels as on the real one, instead of the recessed ones on the Academy kit.

:), G'day dane,
The Russian version of the Nomad had Shvetsov Ash-82FN engines with cowling bumps covering the rocker boxes. The Ash-82FN was a 14 cylinder 1850 hp fuel injected engine making the Russian Nomad the most powerful of all the Catalinas. The engines can be found in the ICM or Encore Tupolev Tu-2 kit. There are from memory no cylinders but the engines had an iris type cowl flap in front of the engine so you don't see the engine cylinders, a bit like the modern Veedeneyev M-14 engines. HTH.

Cheers,
Ross.
