Ive always used Micro Set & Micro Sol when setting my decals on my models. But recently I ran out of them and headed up to the model shop. I asked for the micro brand but the guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted the best stuff on the market. I bought a small glass bottle of the stuff (the brand name escapes me) but it has a yellow and white label with a bush attached to the lid...This stuff is horrible...Im going back to micro!

What do you guys use??

I've always used Micro Sol and Set myself. My supply is ancient, on the order of twenty years old, but it still works just like it did when new. The Micro Mask hasn't survived the many years and moves, though!

It sounds like you got a bottle of Solvaset- this is VERY STRONG stuff. It is very useful when you have stubborn decals that need to go around curves etc. But test it first- it will react badly to some decals. Sometimes I dilute it with water. Even so- dab it out with a tissue fairly quickly and it usually works very well.

Once I get back home this afternoon I will look at the brand and let you know. I think it might be solvaset. Do you apply this before sliding on the decal or just afterwards?

Im working on a Monogram 48 scale B-17 for another client. I tried the new setting solution on the prop decals. The actual decal doesnt look bad but you can still see the edges of the decal. Micro set/sol would disolve that before...Im at the point of putting on the big stuff now but might hold off until I can get some more MS.

Hi Trae- Apply Solvaset on top of decal....then blot it out with tissue after a few seconds....

again- test it first!! good luck

Well I tested it out and I used it on all of the decals....Im just not pleased with it and will go back to the Micro stuff. I dont recall ever having to work as much to see the results I wanted with Micro. It could be the older thicker decals from the Monogram kit that doesnt like the Solvaset too.
I ran into a real problem last night after applying the decals. I sprayed the model with dull coat after completing all of the weathering and other details. The decals wrinkled up like a prune which Ive seen before but normally they work themselves back out !! and then they faded out alot! This almost gave me a heart attack!!! But I think I can use it to my advantage. They guy im building it for wants a really weathered B-17!
I should have her completed tonight.
