Hello all -

I recently purchased an Accurate Miniatures 1/48 SB2U-3 Vought Vindicator. I'd like to build it to represent the one flown by Capt. Richard Fleming (MOH) during the Battle of Midway.

The problem is that the decal sheet has markings for all of VMSB-241, including Capt. Fleming's. Anyone have an idea which plane he flew during the Battle of Midway?

I am sure that there is a rendition of the plane associated with him during the battle, but I am unable to find it. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Hi Junkyard,

He flew plane #2. But watch out. The kit displays his aircraft with a small U.S. insignia on the fuselage. But Midway film from director Ford shows SB2U-3 #2 with an oversized national insignia on the fuselage. Small bit of detail for ya.

Thats how I plan on biulding mine. :D

Good luck,
Nate

Nate -

Thanks for the clarification and the tip. I'm heading out today to King's Hobby in Austin to see if I can find some of those oversized insignia! 8)

Likewise, good luck with yours.

Look in your spare decal box. That is if you have one. I keep all my spare decals just in case down the road I need something. I got a box FULL of spare decals. Plus a seperate box for all my "new" unopened aftermarket decal sheets. :D

Good luck. I would check some refrences to see what the oversize insignia's looking like on a Vindicator.

Here is some Midway vindicators. In the second scene and first airplane taking off I am pretty sure says #2 on the side with a large insignia just behind the number.
