Just finished a Hangar 9 Corsair. I don't go for accurate detail...just a decent looking plane that I'll fly the crap out of. It has a Thunder Tiger .60 2-stroke and JR components. If the weather is decent tommorrow I'll probably put the 1st flight on it. ![]() ![]() |

Where do you fly at? |

Thanks Mustang D. Phantom, my dad and brother both have private airstrips, so I just fly the rc stuff (as well as the real stuff) from either one of their properties. I have, however, flown rc's from several different AMA club fields in the past as well, such as Balsa Bee's in Alliance, and Short Circuits in Ellsworth. |

I was thinking about getting a Hangar 9 aircraft. Do you think it is a good model? |

Yes. I've done Kyosho and Global kits before, but in my opinion this was the best kit yet. It was very straight forward with good components. I like the engineering Hangar 9 did. I guess I'll learn about the handling characteristics soon enough! |

Good luck. I am thinking about either the P-40 or the P-51. |

I was just curious, there are some guys who fly stuff every Saturday and Sunday about 5 minutes from my house in Coventry. Just wondering if you were one of them! ![]() |

The first flight went great today. I posted some video footage here: http://www.airshowbuzz.com/videos/view.php?v=5f6ef9eb |

Hanger 9 has some good stuff, but the Corsair has been known to have a weak join between the firewall and the fuselage. Recommend epoxying some tri-stock to the back side of the firewall to tie it to the fuselage a lttle better. |

Well, just an update because it's a wintery day and I've got nothing better to do..... I put about 40 to 45 flights on it up until October, and then the "sh*t happens" rule took effect. Basically I tried to fly it on a very windy day and it quickly dipped a wing on takeoff and when the wingtip hit the ground, it sheared the left wing off at the gull section, and broke the fiberglass engine cowl in a few spots. I contemplated just buying a new wing assembly, but then decided to buckle down and fix the existing pieces. About 50 hours of labor later (hey, it's better than watching tv!) she successfully flew again. I put some hard G's on it just to elimate any future worries, and it held together and performed great. Since I had to repaint the cowl, I decided to paint a checkerboard scheme. I can't find the crash picture, but here's a pic of the wing structural repair underway. After this photo I replaced the ribs, re-sheeted, and re-covered: ![]() Then, here's the finshed product: ![]() |

Mad dad always said, there are two different kinds of RC planes: those that crashed, and those that are going to crash. |

I guess referencing MazdaP5's post above would be appropriate! The right wing decided to depart the airplane during a hard pull to the vertical. The airplane made a big flailing arc over the house and hangar, and came to rest in a corn field. I blame the builder, which of course is me, for not properly bonding the main spar. Oh well, I got 60 or so flights out it. Nothing a few hundred bucks won't fix. ![]() |
