I know alot of you build models, here's a place for you to discuss model related items and to post pictures of your projects.

Built from sheet plastic styrene and scaled down plans from our museum volunteer and engineer Tim Benson. I've also built this hangar in 1/144th scale.

Nice job Chris, but what about 'scale effect' on the paint?

Don't laugh! There's a gentleman from our local "Plastic Therapy Sessions" that is ALL ABOUT scaling paint for size. "Oh, well if it's a 1/72nd scale 352nd FG Blue Nose P-51, then you gotta use 30 drops of Tamiya Dark Blue and cut that with 14 drops of thinner, and then......"

What?! I won't be doing that. And this is just the beginning.
My goal (for the museum) is to have an accurate 1/350th diorama of the ENTIRE airport from late 1944, early 1945. Why this scale? Well because they make Vindicators, Kingfishers, and Corsairs in that scale. Which is the prime aircraft we need. Yeah 1/700th scale too but I'd like it to have some detail. Other aircraft we'll need are:
C-47s
C-45s
P-47s
P-40s
P-38s
B-25s (which they make!)
And some aircraft that just don't exist so we'll have to scratch build them:
VS-300
V-173
XF5U
VS-44A
etc.

That is excellent! I love scratchbuilding, um, buildings. I hope you continue to update us on this project.

I thought Vindicators were long gone by then - do you have any photos of them from that era?

From what I see the Vindicator was retired in 1945, and by that time they we're probably used for rear line training duty. So it's my thought that perhaps they were brought back to the factory to be overhauled. While we have no evidence of this assumption yet, the decision of whether or not to put SB2Us into the diorama is still waaaaaaaay off. Once we have the actual layout in the process of being built will we start to look at the actual aircraft.

Time to craft some SBC's? or a ROBIN or two?

Great project, I look forward to watching your progress.

Chris, P&W had a Vindicator in civil markings for engine and test work. They scrapped it in the late 50's, but there is a good shot that it visited the Vought plant before their move to Dallas.
