"Jan" P-51D Lt. Robert Dickmeyer, 334th Fighter Sq, 1944

Hey folks, well I am back with a new build. I have managed another Airfix 1/24 P-51D, but its the newer boxing with 3 different props, 2 different canopies and totes itself as P-51D/K. And the plastic is much better than the old kit that I build my Galloping Ghost out of. Well my subject is, as the title states, the initial mount of Lt. Robert Dickmeyer 44-13956, QP-D, a -5NA flown in the last half of 1944 out of Debden, UK. The aircraft featured Red Nose markings, as well as nose art by the squadron's famous artist, Donald Allen. I will be painting D-Day stripes on the aircraft and doing (for the first time) a natural metal finish on the fuselage. This site and a few others have been amazing with information, and I hope to be compiling all of it and hopefully doing my build with a bit of accuracy.
This aircraft was Lt. Dickmeyer's first of two Mustangs, as this one was reported as shot down by flak, and he bellied the craft into a 9th Air Force air field landing strip in France. But I have yet to pin point that exact date. Also Lt Dickmeyer was credited with 2.5 kills during his 6 months with the 334th.
So here are a few pics, as I have started this build a few weeks ago....
This is 44-14606, the second aircraft assigned to Lt. Dickmeyer,

Thanks for looking in, and the great site :D

This is a fantastic job that you are doing here. I have never had any chance of taking a closer look at the parts of a fighter jet. This is cool man, I mean where do you get the pictures. There is one suggestion, If I may, make the pictures better!

thanks

Any progress on the build of this fighter jet? :D

Seriously, looks like a great scheme to model. We'd love to see more.
