The size sure is impressive and they went way overboard on the rivet detail.Looks like they may have copied some civialian mods on the model.Those in the know will recognize a few of them.My guess is Texas Raiders.Hopefully they will release an E and F as well as early G. Enough already with the late model trash.But it will beat H E L L out of vacuforming.

If I had to venture a guess as to the 1/1 reference airplane I'd think it would be one of the European based museum ships. At least I'd think it would be easier for a company based in the Netherlands to use a close one as the pattern. Besides, I don't see any of the doublers on TR that filled my weekends for a few months!

Regardless of the pattern source, I'm going to forget about building that 1/48th scale B-36 I started years ago. With all the giant 1/32 kits coming it would be just another model on the table!

Did anyone else notice that the nose glass was framed ala an "E" model?

I am really excited about this. My big concern is that it is a late "G"; which pretty much limits you to NMF. I have a few pics of late "G"s in OD, but not many.

And, yeah, the engraving/rivet detail seemed a little over the top; but I have to admit the wing looked real sweet.

I just wish they had posted some interior shots. Because for 250$ I better have a pretty good interior!

The real deal nose blister was made in two parts, upper and lower as the technology to blow Plexiglas in that shape to that size wasn't developed yet I think A-20 noses were heat stretched to shape. What they are simulating is the glued overlap seam. I'll bet the rivet detail tones way down after some paint is tossed on. People bitched when HELLER issued their 1/72nd DC-6 and it had a pebbled finish on the exterior, that disappeared once the exterior was painted. And I've never seen a woven texture on a correctly doped and painted real elevator or aileron unless you get right down on the surface (like 6-10 inches then it's still really subtle), so it cracks me up when a manufacturer goes to all the effort to create woven texture, just subtly indicate the tape on the seams please.
I agree with B29fltengr, the props are either backwards or the blades are reversed as the 'face' side seems to face forward and the 'back' or curved portion seems to be on the aft side of the props, marketing idea for some enterprizing resin producer!

Inspector, ok, I see what you mean. And looking at it better, yeah, it does have the shape you would expect of a "G". But honestly I have never noticed that seam before. I'm sure you are right and it is there, but it is not that noticable on the real deal.

You mean someone else hates masking and taping Canopies and Turrets!!!!!!!!!! And here I thought I was all alone.

I hate it so much that on my last Monogram -17 I actually built the cockpit windshield from strip styrene and cut clear plastic for the windows! A lot of work? maybe, but now I can open my window if I want! I have never been lucky about completely eliminating bleed through!

I saw on another board that this is just a prototype. The company is following feedback and wants to present the best model they can and decided to share the image even with needed changes. As they've announced upcoming 1/32 Black Widows and Marauders i'm guessing the B-17 will be at least a year off.

Or use Bare-Metal foil as a mask or for the actual frames themselves. Simply lightly sand the film with 2400 grit and spray it whatever camouflage color you require.

it does say 'in development' so hopefully they will tone down the rivets and reverse the propeller castings.

I had a 1:48 scale Testors T-33 in chrome plastic when i was a wee lad. The canopy was two piece. Chrome frame and a seperate clear canopy.

Why can't these gits figure that out at this scale?

At least make the plastic thinner and clearer so it is not (to scale) a foot thick.

It looks awesome.., I live in NYC so my space is limited.., but I am eyeing a spot on the wall right now.

It should also have functioning control surfaces.., even down to the darn trim tabs and flaps. Should even be able to manipulate the cowl flaps and the entry doors as well.

I can't wait till they tackle the B-36!!! LMAO

Vacuformed glazing would be the way to go and even then use of FUTURE would be a bonus. If you've ever been in the nose of 909, you know how distorted and visually disturbing the view is out the front bubble, makes you wonder how anyone could draw an accurate bead on an enemy fighter, and it's just the way it is, given the 66 year old technology of those blown plastics and the rapidity with which they were cranked out to meet the needs of war. That's not a knock against CF or 909, just the way it is in the real world.

If they ever do decide to tackle a 1/32 B-36, you'd need to sign up for 'the assembly of the month club' kinda like building a BEDE 5, boxes and crates came at odd times, bearing oddly disjointed bits and pieces, like the canopy and a 300 kt ASI and, a prop spinner in a box, and aileron parts and gear doors in the next one.

I'd agree that they need to find a less 'civilianized' 17 and take off all the post WW2 odds and mods back to a stock as they can get.

Or give me optional parts, for that money the kit should come with a ton of optional parts like cheek windows, tail position, even early/late prop blades. Right now the test shot looks like a very late VEGA or DOUGLAS build, not Boeing.
