1:48 Avro Lancaster Mk. X

Sun Jan 31, 2010 2:17 pm

Here's my lastest model. 1:48 Tamiya Avro Lancaster Mk. I/III modified to a Mk.X. I used CanMilAir's FM212 decals. This is modeled after the Lanc we're restoring here in Windsor (Avro Lancaster FM212 "Bad Penny"). I still have a few small touch ups to do but other than that it's done.

Nicely done.

Was it difficult relocating the mid upper turret forward?

Does the model reflect the planned final paint scheme? Are they going to keep the serial FM212 and serial EQ-W with the Bad Penny nose art, or recreate the serial and codes of Bad Penny?

Thanks!

It wasn't to bad, I didn't bother cutting a whole for the turret into the fueslage I just made it so it could sit on top. For the clear part I used the turret from the Revell B-25J and cut it down so it formed to the fueslage, then made the other pieces to cover the part of the sides so it looked like it was actually in the fueslage.

Yes, this is what ours is going to look like when it's done. The FM212 and E-QW serials will be kept along with the Bad Penny nose art. It will be in wartime confirguration but we want to include the antenas and a few other things from FM212 when it was a survey aircraft.

Very nice!
I used to visit your plane in the park when I was kid, I'll be looking forward to seeing her again.

Yes, I played under that plane as a kid a lot, too. I'm glad for the markings choice. It's a bit of an odd amalgam of markings; 408 never flew Merlin-powered Lancs in that paint scheme during the war, let alone Mk.Xs; so it's basically a Mk.II paint scheme with a Mk.X serial and Mk.I nose art; but if you're from Windsor and understand where all the elements of the paint scheme come from, it makes perfect sense.
