Let me explain. My father will be 89 in June and he flew P-40s in N. Africa, Italy and then in CBI with the 33 FG, 59 FS. I would like to comission someone to build a 48th scale or maybe a 32d to museum quality staandards. I came to this site looking for more information on the markings. My father told me that the 33d FG P-47s in Burma had no group markings. I had the painting of his aircraft "sumpin from Sumter" (link below) done from a B&W pic about 30 years ago. You can see that the angle is such that if there were group markings one wouldn't see them. He has since told me that the P-47s were so new that they just picked them up in Burma and started flying them...no time for markings except standard AAF and the striping on the tail (59th were the lions thus the yellow stripe I suppose). I would love to discuss this project with anyone who might have the time and exacting standards (I don't have either) to give this a go so that it might be ready by his birthday.
