Dusting Day

Last night I decided to finally take on a long overdue project. Only took about 2 1/2 hours to take them all off the shelves, get them dusted and redisplay them. Funny how there's never as much room when you try putting them back.

Beautiful models. You must have the patience of a saint to dust them all. Lacking one thing though, a Lancaster!!! The new Revell 1/72 one is meant to be a great model. I am seriously thinking of breaking a 15 year lay of just to build one. No airbrushes for me though. It would be strictly brush painted, or at a stretch, a rattle can!

Thanks! That Revell kit looks like it will build up nice. It's among about 400+ other models to be built in my closet. No airbrush for me either. I really like the Tamiya aircraft color spray cans.

, Hi Spooky, That's a lot of great models you have there. All the few built models I have are in a cabinet behind glass so I don't have to dust them very often and when I do I have so few built ones at the moment I don't have to worry about them not all fitting back in the cabinet. When I do dust them I use a very soft paint brush and a gentle hand as any rigging that appears on the real thing appears on my models.

Neat collection! You even tackled the old PM Models AT-11. I've been planning to combine the fuselage with the wings and empennage from the Hobbycraft C-45.

very nice collection!! the last time i dusted my office was 2005. for some reason it hasn't been that bad. it's in my basement, i have a dehumidifier too. i guess the atmosphere is about right for my collection. were talking models, instruments, leather flight gear etc. when i did clean it last it took me a full day!! not a bad turn around!!

Nice work Al! Years ago an acquaintance of mine displayed all his built stuff hung nose down on the walls of his model room at around eye level. Obvious question, 'WHY?' but I didn't get your moms reply of 'because'. He found he had more room to display, had to dust much less frequently, mounted his 1/72nd PITTS S-2 on the back of his B-36 (talk about size matters!), and most importantly, displayed like that they were about 99+% cat proof since his 14 lb tub of lard tabby loved to jump up on things-

I wish I had the $$$ to invest in glass cases but until then it's the big soft brush for me.

I believe they were an old Microscale set I found at the local hobby shop.

That was at one of my local shops. I think they still have a couple of them there. It's a short run Pavla kit. Pretty simple but neat to have in the collection.
