Doolittle Raider B-25

Hey guys,

Ive been put up to the task to remake one of the B-25's from the Raid. This will go on the Hornet that was displayed in the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame at Lone Star.

My question is...Does anyone know the flap setting that were on the 25's for take off?? Where they FULL flaps?

I suggest you YOUTUBE the subject and see if you can see a video of the takeoff. The entire thing was filmed!

I do not believe they were anywhere close to a 'full' flap setting. They were taking off into quite a headwind and most aircraft were actually airborne prior to the end of the deck!

Well, I just checked one of my sources, and they were using FULL flaps. Now if you're doing Lawson's aircraft - remember that he put them down, then put them up while waiting, and took off with NO flaps.

I knew you would be on this thread Ryan! This will be Doolittle's a/c. Ryan, I know you remember the Hornet display at LSFM. The Hornet is being worked on by another volunteer as well as all of the aircraft. But Doolittle's a/c was no where to be found and was probably washed out to sea during the hurricane. So I have two kits that were given to me to remake the first Mitchell.

I will do some more research...

Missing the windows near the engine...
Also, I think that the windscreen tint is a modern addition, but I could be wrong.
Very nice otherwise!
And a question - Does anyone know for sure about the tailskid? Did the B model B-25's tailskid retract at all, or did it stick out as portrayed in flight as well?

Who's 25 was it that pitched up and nearly stalled on take-off? The video is amazing, poor quality, but amazing!

If we can get that tail skid up/down question put to bed too it would be good. I have scanned the internet and some pics show some blurry thing back there in flight, one pic seemed to show it definitely down, but it could have been a U/S issue too. A Operators Manual for the B model should say, but I have not seen one.

You know Ive never really looked at the B model that much. Im not sure about the tail skid. I will be starting the model tonight or tomorrow. I wonder if the kit has it or not.
