I know I'll get flamed for this, but a natural metal Spit (perhaps polished up like the Red Bull P-38) would be one heck of an airshow attraction.

That would look AWESOME. Has there ever been a polished Spit? I have seen some painted silver that didn't look half bad, but never a bare aluminum one.

Here's another very impressive Spitfire model. Although "only" 1/4 scale this one actually flies. Built by Phil Clark at FighterAces.com for owner Ali Machinchy. If only the pilot were in place for the flight shots I believe the illusion would be nearly perfect.
