I love it!!! Looks fantastic Len! Are they after market decals for the lightning bolt or is it painted on?? Thats one of my favorite schemes on a Mustang!

Its funny,
I hold, as i write this, my 72nd corgi example of this P-51! D model version though.
Ultimately one of the best schemes ever! And with CT legacy!
Would love to see other examples from this squadron.

For those of you who are interested, I'm the customer for the F-6C model. The airplane, AF 42-103604, was the personal airplane of LtCol E.O. McComas, CO 118th TRS, 23rd FG, China 1944 - 1945. This was the airplane in which he scored most of his victories to become the 4th highest scoring Ace in the 14th AF. The markings are as he would have flown it on the Ace-in-a-day mission of Dec 23, 1944.
My Uncle, LtCol Phil Dickey, was the squadrons' armaments officer (as a 1stLt) and also the squadron artist. He designed the "Black Lightning" markings and painted the airplanes for the pilots.
Unfortunately, this particular airplane was scrapped in China after the war.
McComas' P-51D-5NT was presented to him personally by General Chennault on Dec 25, 1944 in recognition of his achievements. He never flew the P-51D in combat and he left China In January 1945.
If anyone is interested in more pictures of the 118th TRS I have 1200 pictures in my data base. Just send me and e-mail and I'll send pictures as I have time.
