For the USAAF Resource Center

Wed Jun 09, 2004 3:45 pm

A new project I would like to undertake in the near future is a section for the USAAF Resource Center section of the WRG, that deals with flight gear worn by USAAF air crews. I was thinking that maybe the reenactors might be able to help. Basically I am looking for pictures of the gear plus names and information on the item. I will create a section in the URC that will cover this subject. I want to include uniforms, jackets, harnesses, parachutes, helmets, etc... anything worn by the flight crews. Items can be worn in the pictures as long as they are clearly displayed. Thanks for your help.

P.S. I also want to do this for the other resource centers as well (UK, Russian, Japanese, and German)

Sounds Good.

Tim Dunavin, Greg Alexander, Mike Hartman and I are doing a display for the 101st Airborne's Week Of Eagles next week, and I will do what I can to photograph some of our gear while we have down time.

I have a parachute harness made by the American Lady Corset Company (or somesuch) in 1943 I could photograph... I also have a Mae West, but that is probably Navy. Oops! I shouldn't say anything- they may be knocking on my door soon wanting it back!

The mae west is cool too, I'll be doing this for the U.S. Navy as well.

Hi,

I have an amount of flight kit that could be photographed for your project ranging from flight helmet and oxygen mask to seat-pack parachute etc. Also, please bear in mind that US pilots used a quantity of British kit throught the war as well. Let me know what you'd like to do.

I have several variations on original jacket, helmets, flight suits, boots, etc., as well as other AAF and RAF related gear. What format were you looking for, and how / where do you want the photos submitted?

Pictures can be submitted to editor@REMOVETHISwarbirdsresourcegroup.org (make sure to remove the REMOVETHIS, seems obvious but you'd be surprised)

Pictures should be jpeg, medium quality at 72dpi. They will b sized to 10in along there longest side.

If you can't scan then pictures can be sent to

Definately. Without ground crews aircraft are basically lawn ornaments.

Basically, what I need is pictures of equipment and apparel, what it is, and when was it use and by whom. You can send it to editor@REMOVEwarbirdsresourcegroup.org (please take out the REMOVE before sending)

As soon as I get enough images and information I will start putting the section together. Now this isn't just limited to individual gear. Larger equipment and vehicles use on airfields are welcome as well.

And try to be descriptive in the subject line so I can more easily differentiate from spam.

thanks.
