Post subject:  Wish to fly into Dayton Airforce Museum ??

I am hoping to fly into Dayton to visit the Airforce museum this spring, May timeframe. Any pointers from the forum members on where (close by airfield) to land/park a light a/c. I am assuming you cannot fly in directly to the Museum airfield ? If otherwise please let me know.

Also, any pointers where to stay. Any need to rent a car ?
:?:

Thanks,
Keith

Several of us took a Bonanza down several years ago and we flew into a local airport about a 20minute drive from the museum. We rented a car for about $40. Can't rememebr the name of the airport. We did clear customs at detroit city airport before heading down.

Eric

Well There are plenty of options. The First is Moraine airpark (I73) It is a small strip about 3500'(20 Minute Drive). The next would be Dayton Intl (KDAY). They have a few FBO's and REntal cars as well as Taxi's.(30 Min. Depending on Traffic). The next is Springfield(KSGH) This has an air national guard unit on the airport they fly F-16's(25 min). Then a little further away is Dayton Wright Brothers(KMGY) They have a small musuem with replicas of the wright flyer and some of the Wright Gliders. Also based on the Field is a T-28.

I've flown there a couple of times last year in our C-47; we used Springfield and rented a car at the FBO for the 20 minute drive to the museum.

If you fly into Springfield, remember to look at the Ohio ANG collection...several planes includinga straight wing F-84.

Also, Moraine has a lot of neat general aviation classics.

And the Dayton Wright Brothers had a very nice Bell 47G-2 operating there several years ago.
