Thanks for the update, Cuz! I'll try to be there as soon as I can. By the way, who's in charge of weather for the weekend? I hope they have booked fairly warm, dry, and high ceilings. This will also be the B-25 Yellow Rose's annual Christmas party at the Hangar Hotel. Sadly, the Rose won't be there this year. She still has her left engine and wing off. Hopefully the engine will arrive soon. Work on the wing is pretty much on schedule. Nothing happened to the wing, it's just a little corrosion was found on some parts and they are being replaced. |

Not trying to say you are "wrong" in calling it an F4F,but Howards may not be the only one to show up. I don't care if you call it a F4F or FM-2 there all WILDCATS ![]() ![]() I personally hope to see more than one Wildcat there ![]() |

Ryan actually Wall was buzzsawed by the last plane off--Bat Out of Hell. It didn't interfere with the takeoff time at all. I'm not sure they even formed up because it would have sucked so much fuel circling into formation, and single targets made it tougher for the japanese to catch. The Hour was just deckapes shuffling them around, and warmups, etc. An hour for sixteen aircraft gives under four minutes apiece. Not bad, considering what they were doing, eh? Certainly not a flight of Wildacts, but B25's aren't wildcats ![]() |

From what I can tell from piecing things together, a few of the aircraft had issues taxiing forward with the rough seas, and according to at least one account, the last aircraft nearly tipped backwards as they had started to taxi forwards. Several years back I found Mr. Wall and called him up before he passed away. Was still frustrated and upset about the incident 60 years later. Ryan |

From what I have heard he wouldn't talk about it he was so frustrated, but I can never figure out why exactly he was frustrated. Could you enlarge on it for us? |

I think he was partially bitter that it happened, didn't like the stigma of not having an arm, pretty much let it ruin the rest of his life. It was REALLY sad talking to him. I'm glad I did, though. Honestly, I don't know this for sure, but I think that like a lot of things in life it's about how YOU respond to things. I've been told that the guys on the Hornet took up a fairly good sized collection for him (considering the circumstances) when he was sent off the ship. I don't know how much he really remembered about the event. I do know that every time I heard Mr. DeShazer talk about it seemed like it was pretty sobering thing for all of the guys around. I'm still not sure I have the exact scene down, but DeShazer said that he was out of the aircraft helping and that he apparently went over to Wall just before they left and Wall told him "Give 'em hell for me." (That's funny MY getting edited!) ![]() Ryan |
