This weekend a few LSFM aircraft will be at Houstons Hobby Airport. The 1940's Terminal is having their Wings and Wheels Saturday. Also they are having a raffle for a 1947 Cessna 140. If you have not been by the 40's Air Terminal and you live in the Houston area...you should stop in some time. There is alot of history for that building! http://www.1940airterminal.org/ Lone Star will be having three or four airplanes, some available for rides. http://www.lsfm.org/ |

I've been SOOO tempted to buy one of those tickets for that Cessna 140. I did my tailwheel endorsement in a 120 (very similar) and really enjoyed flying the little plane. That one sure was pretty when I saw it at WOH. Ryan |

When I was a young kid I took my first airline ride as for as I remember out of that terminal. I believe I flew to Love Field. Wish I could be there for it all. |

You must have been really little. I remember that the big terminal was in use before 1960. |

Rick, it may have been in the 50s. I know where I was at least once in 1960. Oct 1960, Sat night at a party with high school friends. We got Lightin Hopkins and drummer Spider to play, for about $150 and a couple of fifths. We were also watching the Texas-Rice game on TV and saw an unknown defensive back named James Saxton make an open field tackle on a kick return despite two blockers. In 61 Texas almost won the national championship, one loss, 6-0 to TCU, and Saxton, now an All American, finished high in the Heisman voting. Lot's of good memories back then. Twenty-five years later I ran into my date that night, Donna, at a high school reunion at Rice stadium. About 1989, I met a lady at an airshow party near Dallas and got to talking football. Turns out she was Saxton's high school girlfriend, said he used to train by chasing jackrabbits! I'd like to have been that quick for just one game in high school! I remember when the big terminal used to have a restaurant with real food in that big room. |
