New England Wreck Hunting Expidition!

Let's do a summer wreck hunting expedition and camp out! Over a weekend or something. Rhor has some good Ideas of where we should go! :idea:

Sounds like fun.

I know of C-46 (NY) and B-18 (NH) crash sites, both look like interesting sites.

What else is out there? I've heard of a B-29 in Vermont but it doesn't appear there is much left.

i know ohio can't provide any wreck chases...... but the old blue & gold state of michigan can!!!! i :vom:

) i know their are a number of crashes in the boondocks of the upper peninsula of michigan that are just itching for an expedition. anybody in this area interested????

We have to make sure we don't conflict with any major airshow dates. Think Scott would like to go?

Well, seeing as the UP is only a 3 hour drive away for me, I guess I'm obligated to be interested. :wink:

What kind of Hike are we talking about with the SB2C? I'd love that sense it seems to be a lesser know wreck.

What do you recommended for a base camp for the hike, or hike to it and stay near the crash site?

Is this on state land or private?

I personally love a good hard hike (or I did when I weighted 50# less). Would the B-18 be better for the group of us?

Are you up to be the Guide? I have a bunch of info on the B-18 but nothing on the SB2C.

I would think that that early in the year (late May or early June considering we'd be in the Big Hills (vs. the Mountains out west) or early fall. I'd want to try and get it together in the spring and maybe have a standby date or two.

hey... how about my proposal??? any brave adventurous souls in the great lakes area want to go up to the upper peninsula on a wreck chase?? i've heard nothing from fellow ohioans, wisconsonites, or michiganders(

Tom, you can dispense with the formalities. "Cheeseheads" is fine for us folks from Wisconsin. :lol:

And I think if you'll look up a post or two previous, our good friend Dan K. said he's interested. And I would be too as long as things at work settled down enough for me to get some decent time off to do the "chase".....

When I first read these words from your original post, I assumed that you were already familar with location and type. I am not, nor am I familiar with how one would go about finding wreck locations...it's simply not my area of expertise.

What could I contribute? I've camped the UP in the past, don't mind a few bears (and unlimited horseflies, deerflies, mosquitoes...), and can still do the hard hike. My two oldest boys (16 & 13) are goofy enough about old wrecks (airplanes, not their dad) that they'd probably whine if I didn't bring 'em along to help. I can also make Steve Dennis laugh so hard that stuff comes out his nose.

I'm in education, so I can pretty much set my own hours in June & July. Any earlier or later than those months and the nights are too cold in the UP anyway.

I would think May would be a great time to head up, before the leaves and under brush become too think. And the weather becomes too hot. June and July would be a bit tuff for me.

Everyone what is your thoughts on this? If we really want to to happen we will need to get somethings going asap. I love hiking and finding an aircraft at the end of the hike sounds like a great plan.
