Just want to let people know that the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will be holding it's annual Father's day event this year. Slightly different setup this year, more of a focus on the aircraft rather than the other things. Ed Russell will be bringing his Hurricaine and Me-109, and Vintage Wings of Canada will be bringing their Corsair. Should be a good weekend if you're in the area. Memberships will be for sale, and subject to availability you can take your Beech-18 or DC-3 flight that day, or upgrade for a flight in the Chipmunk, Tiger Moth or Cornell. Hope to see some people there!

I'll be there on one of the days, not sure which yet. I guess which ever day has the better weather. I didn't bother going last year since it was pretty much the same planes as the previous year, but I'll definitely make it this time to check out the VWoC Corsair.

I will be there on the Saturday...nice event and also a great opportunity to see a few of their static aircraft on display outside.

I will be there for the first time in years. I'm pretty excited and it should be fun. Hope they fire up the Lysander for a taxi run.

There will be significantly less outside this year. In past years we have had Soar With Legends, where almost everything was outside, and there were vendors etc inside. This year it is a different event, hence the name change to Flyfest. There will be some things outside, and I assume it will be set up so people can go outside to see the aircraft, however it will likely be in more organized groups for security reasons, as there wont be a fence up like there has been in the past. In the past the number of people coming out for Soar With Legends has decreased, culminating in it's cancelation this year, and resulting in this new event known as Flyfest. The focus will be on the flying and the aircraft, rather than other distractions. I do have to say I am in no way involved with the planing, I am a mere volunteer, just passing on the information I have been given from above. I'll be around all day Saturday, and until 1500 on Sunday when I start work at the other end of the field. Any questions just ask me and I'll either answer it or pass it on to someone who can.

Any idea if we will be allowed onto the area in front of museum (outside) to see the CWH and visiting aircraft up close that are taking part in the flying part of the event?

As far as I know the plan is to have volunteers taking people out on tours. This is good in my opinion because people will be in groups and not standing infront of everything. I will ask at the museum and confirm this.

Well in the tradition of leaving plans to the last minute... it has not been determined for sure exactly how they will work the ramp. They want this to be as close to a regular day at the museum as possible. Having said that, on a normal day at the museum tour guides take people outside to see the planes. The Me-109 and Hurricaine will be inside the hangar, at the time they weren't sure if the Corsair would be inside or out. I'll be sure to let you know anything else I find out. I will be there both days, I would be more than happy to take some members from this site on a tour, and if anyone's interested I'll ask if theres any way I can bring some people through before the museum is open to the public, no guarantees though. PM me if you'd be interested in this.

Greg are Russell's birds flying? and do they have a schedule or list of what is flying?

Sorry to make yet another post, but I dropped in to the museum and have some more information.

First: The Me-109 is not expected at the museum. Russell Group is sending the Spitfire and Hurricaine. Mike Potter is bringing his Corsair, and Jerry Yagen is bringing a P-51 from the Fighter Factory. These aircraft are expected to arrive Saturday between 11:30am and 12:30.

Second: In case anyone is interested in flights or memberships - - Member rides are being offered in the Beech 18 and DC-3. I think that they are fully booked, but I'm not sure. Also, if you buy a membership and donate an extra $100 you can go in the Chipmunk or the Cornell for you member ride. For $250 on top of the membership you can take your member ride in the Firefly for your member ride. For $300 on top of the membership you can take your member ride on the B-25 or PBY. It is first come first serve, and you can not book in advance.

Do you know what aircraft will be flying? I am interested in the Lanc, although information on any aircraft flying is appreciated.

On both days the Lancaster, B-25, PBY, Firefly, Beech-18, DC-3, Harvard, Stearman, Chipmunk, and Cornell will fly. On Saturday the visitors will be arriving between 11:30and 12:30, so they will be flying that day, it doesn't sound like they will be flying on the Sunday though. All the museum's aircraft will fly several times through the day, depending on how many member flights they sell.

I went today and was disappointed from a flying standpoint, there were not many good opportunities to photograph the a/c in the air. Also the Mustang and Corsair were not outside for long before they were towed into the hanger.

Nonetheless, still a good venue to get some shots of a/c on the ramp instead of in a hangar.
