From today's ICAS Fast Facts email: Quote: Elkhart Airshow Taking 2007 off to Regroup and Hopeful for Return in 2008
In a press release dated March 26, 2007, Robin Rigsby, President of the Elkhart Airshow Committee in Elkhart, Indiana, announced that they would not hold an air show in this, their 21st year. Her explanation of this development was both candid and optimistic: "Our Board of Directors has met and decided it is best if we take a year off, regroup, and then see where we stand," said Rigsby. "The problem is we're just not currently finding the corporate funding and donations we need to make a show happen in 2007." Ms. Rigsby also stated that recent construction had placed new buildings in the middle of Elkhart Airshow's previously approved performance box. And, construction on the airfield has limited the parking space for spectators. "The show's committee is excited about the growth of the airport and the city; however, it does cause changes in show planning", according to the release. Ms. Rigsby expressed gratitude to the city for the last 20 years of support and closed her release optimistically saying that "The show's International Council of Airshows membership, 501C, and all volunteer committee will remain in place with hopes of a high flying return in 2008." |
