Free lunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Count me in. Those were the days at the Hobby Hilton. When's the last time you saw a splat contest on the bar of a Hotel Bar? Those were the days alright. Doubt any of these youngsters have as much fun as we did.

Wow a hurricane hits and I have not read this Post since and now see the Aircobra will be at WOH 2008! BTW I love the Bell Cobras the P-39 and P-63 are BOTH awesome, speaking of P-63 is the CAF one based here still flying?

I think the P-63 you are asking about is up at Ezell's, in a bunch of pieces. Not wrecked, just taken apart for transport. Mucho corrosion found during the annual. I've heard, both, that he's going to put it together for a static, and that he's going to restore it back to flyable. I guess it depends on the money available.

Rumors. All rumors.
The P-63 IS at Ezell Aviation, and is in several pieces right now. I was part of the crew that took it apart for transport. There was some corrosion found, but nowhere near as much as had been widely reported by the previous maintenance facility. There are indeed some issues that are being addressed, but this airplane WILL fly again. The Sponsor Group is just working out their finances and work will resume on it very soon.

Thanks for the clarification. I enjoy seeing the Bell warbirds out there and look forward to seeing a -39 and 63 in the air together again.

Thanks, Gary, for sorting out which rumor was fact, and which fiction!

This Bell warbird will be flying experience flights after the waiver expires each day !

Rooms nearby are rare, and costly! The Hampton Inn said they aren't sure if they will have more rooms ready by then, but if so, they would be $129/night (single), and they might not have carpet in them.

I just ran up and taxied Lonestar's B-25 today to insure it's "okee-dokee-ness" for a ferry flight to Ellington this weekend, so they can finish up a Phase Inspection that the hurricane interrupted. So, what I'm getting at is that you'll be seeing it at Wings Over Houston as well!

Thanks for all the help Gary! Hopefully we'll have Thunderbird there as well.

If anyone's interested, the pilot of this plane during WWII is scheduled to be in the autograph tent. I'm hoping to be there as well.

I expect a report on the splat contest when you return cuz Mike. Pictures would be nice.
Thu Oct 23, 2008 1:21 pm
Well Cuz, if I see a splat contest, I'll give you the run down. I might not though. Calvin Allen isn't going to be able to make it with is Red Tail T-6 after all, so he's given me his room. So, I'll be at the NASA Hilton, not Hobby.
Plans are to depart San Marcos around noon on Friday. I'll have the P-39 in tow. Will be taking the VFR corridor through Houston to Ellington, probably sometime around 12:45pm. I'll have the P-39 support crew in the U-11 with me. Grant Lannon will be up front with me. He's supposed to take the 39 back to San Marcos on Sunday. Our new A&P member, who has done a wonderful job with the P-39 and all the other planes, will also be with me. Hopefully his service won't be needed!

Have y'all agreed on a meeting location, or is it "spot the WIX t-shirt" time?
Saludos,
Tulio

I'm not sure if I'll make it past the Legends tent...but should be there. If there is a gathering on Saturday - can someone let me know? I'll be out of internet and cell phone range.
